Welcome to the Ponty Pirate Derby Dames!

The Ponty Pirate Derby Dames were established in September 2012 by a woman who dreamed of playing a competitive sport. With no derby experience a small group rallied around and word quickly spread that something new was happening in the valleys. We focused on basic skills until an experienced coach, Jen Baxter (now of Tiger Bay Brawlers) happened to find us. With her wealth of experience and tireless efforts of the team we formed the Ponty Pirates.

A committee was born, fresh meat was recruited and we began to scrim. UKRDA membership is an achievement that gives our club a status and our goals for the future are to develop further through guest coaches, boot camps and liaising with top teams so we can compete at the highest level.

We want to empower women to engage in our sport no matter who they are or what they do, to be athletic and strong on and off the track. We have also held events for local charity’s and want to be involved in the local community and offer derby to the younger generation.

Derby has changed our lives and we want to give people the opportunity to experience this hard hitting, ass-kickin’  sport.

Welcome to NPT Roller Derby!

NPTRD logoNPT Roller Derby was started in January 2012, by three skaters after gaining experience and an appreciation of Roller Derby through involvement with other teams in the South Wales area. As there was no team in our home borough Neath Port Talbot, we saw an  opportunity to begin developing a new league in the local area.

Our journey so far has been a good one we have brought together a group of dedicated and passionate individuals, who have helped the team grow to where it is now. We started out with one session a week but now have three catering for all our skaters needs. We are continuously recruiting and have a recruitment day on the 15th June 2013 to recruit more skaters and officials.

NPTRD continuously develops and nurtures our members. We have a BRSF Level 2 qualified coach and hope to develop more coaches in the future widening our skater’s skills. We are currently hosting some closed bouts and will be hosting our first open bout this year. We are also building up our two intra-league teams Dolls of Thunder and Steel Survivors.

Being involved in the local community is important to us, we have created many friendships in the Community, helping out and raising money for local and national charities and promoting roller derby positively.

Our aim is to keep growing the team and its individuals, promoting derby as a sport in Wales and the UK by sharing the benefits with other women in the Neath Port Talbot area. We are honoured to be accepted in the UKRDA and look forward to working alongside a great organisation to fulfil our aims and to contribute to the growth and the development of Roller Derby in the UK.
